Hugo Lloris admits fears over injury sustained by Tottenham defender Cristian Foia

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has publicly admitted his fears over the injury sustained by Tottenham defender Cristian Foia who sustained an ankle injury during the club’s pre-season friendly against Wycombe Wanderers.

The 23-year-old headed home an 85th-minute penalty after the game was postponed due to the player’s injury. He was carried off on a stretcher and could be seen clutching his injured ankle as the game was halted.

A spokesperson for the club revealed shortly after the game that the player had suffered a lateral ankle ligament injury and his fitness is now being monitored.

“We expect to see him at the weekend, but we don’t know if he will play,” Lloris told journalists. “We hope that he will recover as quickly as possible. At the moment we need to be very careful and calm because it’s a serious injury, we can’t underline it. We’re waiting for the second opinion to see if he has to go to hospital.”

The defender is now unlikely to feature in Tottenham’s first Premier League fixture of the season.
