The singer was rushed to hospital and treated by paramedics after she suffered a suspected heart attack.

The singer later explained that she had suffered a “tough Wednesday” after suffering hypothermia and passing out.

Katie Waissel (@KatieWaissel) Gettin better. Hypothermia & passing out has me fearing I’ve got old. Need a good night’s sleep

Waissel, who was discovered on The X Factor in 2010, said she had already had two overdoses in recent months as she battles depression.

She said in a statement to the Mirror that she had tried to commit suicide during one of the incidents, and had been in hospital for two weeks.

Following a “tough” week, the singer tweeted that she was hoping to come out better on Friday morning, and said: “It’s not easy getting better but I know I’ll be ok.”

Alongside a link to a message about obtaining counselling from the charity Samaritans, she wrote: “I’ve been a mess! I need to get better.”

Waissel is reportedly in talks to host her own breakfast show, and has previously appeared on various ITV shows including Celebrity Juice and Good Morning Britain.

Waissel explained that she had experienced “the fear of being really old” after her “tough” day.

She said: “People always ask what I would do if I didn’t deal with this ever again. Then I get this question – what have I done?

“So I want to say that I’ve done so much. I’ve had an incredible life and lived all the time.

“In this moment of loss of control … I’ve felt real shame.”

A spokesperson for ITV told the Telegraph: “Katie is a brilliant panellist on Good Morning Britain and very popular with the viewers, who tune in to hear all of the most interesting news and the opinion of the celebs.

“We all wish her all the best and look forward to seeing her back on TV later this year.”
